| Ludovic-Rodolphe was a son of Camille Pissarro, and received his artistic training from his father. From 1898 he lived in Monmartre, but during the First World War he moved to England, where he found work as a wood engraver. On his return to Paris, he and his brother Lucien founded the group "Monarro", which was presided over by Monet. A frequent exhibitor at the Salon des Independants and at private galleries in Paris and London, he possessed a remarkable eye for drawing and caricature, as well a capacity to capture the lively life of Parisian cafes and theaters and the atmosphere of his native landascapes(cf. his views of the banks of the Seine and of the Marne). |
