1912-1972
Although he was born in South Yorkshire, Suddaby is best known as a Suffolk artist. He moved with his family to Tendring, near Sudbury, in 1937, after having achieved a good degree of success in London, where he exhibited at the Redfern Gallery. It was in Suffolk, and especially on its coastline, however, that Suddaby found the inspiration for his trademark pictures for which he is now most widely known.
